# PDF Engineer Terms of Use

Effective date: October 11, 2026
Version: 2026-10-11

These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and Joel Masters ("we," "us," or "our"), who provides the PDF Engineer software and website. PDF Engineer is the product name used in these Terms; it does not identify a separate legal entity. These Terms cover the PDF Engineer desktop application, the PDF Engineer website, and related services that we provide (collectively, the "Service").

## 1. Acceptance of Terms

You agree to these Terms when you affirmatively accept them through an acceptance process presented to you. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. If you accept on behalf of a company or other organization, you represent that you have authority to bind it, and "you" means that organization. Otherwise, "you" means the individual accepting these Terms.

## 2. License and Permitted Use

While you have an active subscription or other access expressly authorized by us, and comply with these Terms, you receive a limited license to use PDF Engineer for your internal business and engineering workflows, or for educational or evaluation purposes within any access we authorize. The license is non-exclusive and non-transferable. Authorized trials and educational access are subject to these Terms and any applicable eligibility or access conditions presented to you.

## 3. Subscription and Billing

Paid subscriptions renew for the billing period you select unless you cancel before renewal. Applicable charges, billing frequency, renewal terms, and cancellation instructions must be disclosed to you when you subscribe. Cancel using the cancellation method provided with your subscription. Merely stopping use or uninstalling the application does not cancel a subscription.

Fees are non-refundable except when a refund is required by applicable law or expressly offered by us. Nothing in these Terms limits a mandatory cancellation, refund, notice, or consent right. Any trial or educational access we authorize is governed by the conditions disclosed for that access; these Terms do not themselves authorize a charge or automatic conversion of free access to a paid subscription.

## 4. Account Responsibilities

Keep your account credentials confidential and take reasonable steps to prevent unauthorized use. You are responsible for activity you authorize or permit through your account. Inform us promptly if you become aware of unauthorized access. Nothing in this section transfers responsibility for our own conduct to you or limits your non-waivable rights.

## 5. Acceptable Use

Do not use the Service unlawfully or infringe another person's rights. Do not disrupt its operation, misuse its features, or reverse engineer protected software components except to the extent applicable law permits that activity notwithstanding this restriction.

## 6. Customer Content and Local Processing

You retain ownership of your documents, drawings, project files, annotations, and other content. You are responsible for having the rights and permissions needed to use that content with the Service and to share it with others.

The desktop application's drawing rendering, markup creation, review, and export operations run locally on your workstation. PDF Engineer does not upload your engineering documents to external servers to perform those operations. Internet connectivity supports account management, company seat administration, subscription validation, software updates, and support requests. Local document processing does not mean that account, billing, or support interactions occur entirely offline.

If you voluntarily send us a file, drawing, screenshot, diagnostic material, or other content for support, that submission is separate from local document processing. You authorize us to access and use the submitted material, and to allow service providers assisting with that support to do so, only as reasonably necessary to respond to your request, troubleshoot the issue, and fulfill applicable legal obligations. This permission does not extend to unrelated use of your locally processed documents or grant ownership of your content to us.

Before submitting support material, confirm that you are authorized to disclose it and remove information that is unnecessary for the request. Do not submit material whose disclosure would violate a confidentiality obligation, export restriction, or other applicable requirement.

Our [Privacy Policy](https://www.getpdfengineer.com/privacy) describes our handling of personal information, including account and support information.

## 7. Intellectual Property

We and our licensors retain the intellectual property rights in the PDF Engineer software, branding, and website content. Your license gives you permission to use the Service within these Terms; it does not transfer those rights. This section does not affect your ownership of Customer Content under Section 6.

## 8. Disclaimers

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Service is supplied as is and as available, without express or implied warranties, including implied warranties of merchantability, suitability for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for every document or workflow.

These disclaimers are subject to Section 11. They do not exclude any warranty, remedy, or right that applicable law prohibits us from excluding.

## 9. Website Calculators and Reference Tools

Website calculators, converters, tables, examples, and other engineering reference tools provide general information. Their inputs, methods, or results may be approximate, incomplete, outdated, or inappropriate for a particular application.

Independently check the relevant assumptions, values, calculations, standards, and engineering conclusions before relying on website tools for design, production, inspection, procurement, safety, regulatory compliance, or other operational decisions. These tools do not provide engineering approval or certification. Subject to Section 11 and applicable law, we disclaim responsibility for losses arising from reliance on these tools or their results, including defects, delays, rework, and compliance or safety problems.

## 10. Engineering Use and User Responsibilities

### 10.1 Drawing accuracy and engineering decisions

PDF Engineer assists with viewing, annotating, editing, comparing, and reviewing documents, including engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation. Use of the Service does not independently verify, validate, approve, or certify a document's technical accuracy, completeness, suitability, or compliance.

You are responsible for reviewing the source documents, your edits and annotations, and the resulting documents. This includes checking dimensions, units, tolerances, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), datum references, feature control frames, material and process specifications, weld symbols, notes, bills of materials, revision identifiers, and other information relevant to your work. A displayed symbol, annotation, measurement, or comparison result does not establish conformity with an engineering standard. Comparison results are review aids and may not identify every change.

You remain responsible for design judgments, manufacturing instructions, inspection criteria, acceptance decisions, document control, and obtaining the approvals required by your organization, customer, and applicable law. The Service does not replace qualified engineering judgment or required professional review.

### 10.2 Verification of saved, exported, and shared documents

Before releasing, sharing, printing, or using a document for manufacturing, inspection, purchasing, compliance, or another operational purpose, verify the actual saved or exported file against the intended source and approved changes. Check that pages, dimensions, units, scale, symbols, fonts, annotations, leaders, revision information, and other relevant content are present, legible, correctly placed, and accurately represented.

Inspect the output in the viewer, document system, or printing workflow in which it will be used. Verify any subsequent conversion or printing that could affect the information or scale. Do not infer physical dimensions solely from an on-screen or printed scale without checking the applicable units and scale. Retain appropriate originals and backups and use your required approval and release procedures. Saving, exporting, or displaying a PDF does not itself approve it for production or certify its accuracy.

### 10.3 Manufacturing and safety-critical applications

The Service does not supply engineering certification, regulatory clearance, quality-system validation, or authorization to manufacture, inspect, or release a product. It is not a substitute for safety controls, independent verification, testing, or required approvals.

If you use the Service in connection with aerospace, medical devices, transportation, nuclear systems, or other applications where an error could cause injury, death, property damage, or environmental harm, you are responsible for determining its suitability for your workflow and establishing the independent review, validation, testing, traceability, and other controls required for that application. Do not rely on the Service or its outputs as the sole basis for a safety-critical decision or product release.

Subject to Section 11 and applicable law, we disclaim responsibility for manufacturing or operational decisions made in reliance on unverified documents or outputs. This section does not excuse our fraud, willful misconduct, gross negligence, or any liability that cannot lawfully be disclaimed or limited.

## 11. Limitation of Liability and Legal Exceptions

### 11.1 Excluded damages

To the extent applicable law allows, we exclude liability arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, and for loss of profit, revenue, data, or business opportunity. This exclusion applies regardless of the legal theory asserted and even if we were advised that such losses were possible. It is subject to Section 11.3.

### 11.2 Aggregate liability cap

To the extent applicable law allows, our total aggregate liability for all claims arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will not exceed the total fees you actually paid for PDF Engineer during the twelve (12) months immediately preceding the first event giving rise to any of those claims. This is a single aggregate cap, not a separate cap for each claim, incident, document, user, or legal theory. It applies to claims in contract, tort (including ordinary negligence), statute, or otherwise, subject to Section 11.3.

If you paid no fees during that twelve-month period, the cap is zero, subject to Section 11.3. Amounts paid by an organization that is the contracting customer count as amounts paid by that customer for its covered use.

### 11.3 Exceptions and mandatory rights

No disclaimer, exclusion, responsibility allocation, or liability cap in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for fraud, willful misconduct, or gross negligence. No provision excludes or limits our liability for a violation of law, death, or personal injury to the extent applicable law prohibits that exclusion or limitation, or waives any non-waivable consumer protection, statutory remedy, or other mandatory right.

These exceptions apply throughout these Terms, including Sections 8, 9, and 10, and control over any conflicting language. Where applicable law permits only a narrower disclaimer or limitation, that narrower permissible scope applies. If a provision cannot be enforced, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.

## 12. Termination

We may suspend or end your access for a violation of these Terms. You may discontinue use whenever you choose, but cancel any paid subscription separately under Section 3 to stop renewal. Provisions intended by their nature to continue after termination remain applicable, including ownership provisions, disclaimers, and liability limitations, subject to mandatory rights and Section 11.3.

## 13. Changes to Terms

We may revise these Terms. Each revised version will state its effective date and be available on this page. Material revisions will be communicated before they take effect for existing customers, with any notice and opportunity to cancel required by applicable law. Where acceptance is required, we will request affirmative acceptance of the revised version.

Revisions apply prospectively and do not retroactively change the terms governing an existing dispute. Posting revised Terms alone does not replace any legally required notice, consent, or acceptance process.
